We would love to know a little bit about you and your family.
I’m born and raised in Ottawa. I have been a full-time coach for 8 years now. I graduated from the Algonquin College Fitness and Health Promotion program with Honours. I started my career specializing in Olympic-style Weightlifting, helping to coach some of our amazing Provincial and National level Weightlifters. I then bridged that knowledge into coaching CrossFit.
Throughout the past 2 years, I helped develop an online training platform for a technology company called Gyroscope that specializes in aggregating the data from wearable devices like an Apple Watch. I hired and trained coaches to help people reach their weight, health and fitness goals by monitoring things like their heart rate, HRV, sleep time, nutrition, workouts and daily steps.
I have an amazing wife and two beautiful young boys aged 2.5 and 5 months old. When I’m not working, I am spending as much time as I possibly can with them!
How did you get into fitness?
I found my passion for exercise in high school when I was given credits to go work out in a gym! Strength training helped me to build more confidence and I was hooked! I have solely worked in fitness facilities since!
What are your fitness goals these days?
My fitness goals have changed tremendously since becoming a father. I used to be focused on lifting as much weight as possible and now my sole goals are to look good for my wife, be strong enough to carry a 35lbs (and growing) toddler, and set a good example for my kids.
What does fitness mean to you?
My fitness means never feeling limited. I take a lot of pride and pleasure in being able to crawl through the play structure with my little guy, do summersaults and cartwheels, and carry him home if he gets tired. I know that with a growing family, the challenges of “keeping up” will only increase and so fitness to me means never feeling like I can’t keep up.
Tell us about your favorite food?
I love Korean food! Dolsot Cafe is an excellent spot in case anyone is curious to give it a try!
What do you love about yourself?
I have an undying curiosity and joy for learning. It’s not enough for me to learn things on a superficial level, I really enjoy diving deep into a subject so that I can explain it in a simple but detailed way.
What do you love about LYB?
I love the environment of acceptance for everyone regardless of what point in their life or fitness journey they are. There’s a real positive energy and I’ve already met some amazing people!
