Meet Lauren Larocque: A New Addition to the LYB Team!

How did you get into fitness?

My name is Lauren Larocque. I started going to the gym in high school, as a way to keep my body moving and build strength. Organized group sports weren’t of interest to me but I enjoyed individual activities I could do with people (swimming, biking, rock climbing, canoeing, etc). I was in my early 20’s when I found yoga. Yoga became a way to separate myself from daily stressors and check in with how I was feeling. It quickly became more than just a practice. Yoga became a way of connecting with myself through breath and movement. After I completed my YTT I knew I wanted to share yoga and movement with others, to give them that same feeling of connection. I continue to learn about and try different movement modalities, activities and sports as a way to evolve my fitness experience and knowledge.

What are your fitness goals?

My fitness goals continue to be about finding balance, and being the best, strongest version of myself. I like the challenge of pushing myself and accomplishing my goals.

What does fitness mean to you?

Fitness for me is about both the body and mind. Being physically strong, and fit is one thing, but I think having a strong mind makes all the difference. How we talk to ourselves, our outlook, and how we approach situations really guides our fitness journey. I think it’s so important to check in with both our body and mind daily.

Tell us about your favourite food?

I love anything Mediterranean! And dark chocolate!

What do you love about LYB?

I love LYB because of its inclusivity and message of loving yourself. I met Kate through yoga, and every time I took her class she inspired me to be stronger, push harder and most importantly listen to my body, to be proud of what I was capable of. LYB is amazing because it empowers its community and creates a safe space for everyone to come as they are.
