Meet Coach Sarah: My Journey to find Myself

Hello LYB community, my name is Sarah!

I am so excited to be joining the LYB coaching team as a certified yoga teacher. I can’t wait to get to know each of you more through our yoga practice together. If you’d like to learn more about my wellness journey and what brought me to teaching yoga, keep reading!

Where I grew up

I had a very active childhood growing up in Kingston, Ontario, with LYB Coach Isabel — she’s my sister! I would climb, jump and play anywhere! My parents got me into organized sports, and I played on various competitive teams. My true passion was always dance. I learned countless life lessons through my many years of competitive dance. Mostly good lessons (commitment, strength, perseverance, poise, teamwork), and some less positive.

When I graduated from high school and moved to Waterloo to study Environment & Business at UW, my life changed drastically. The facade of keeping it all together that I had managed to keep up in high school wasn’t staying intact. I had full autonomous control of my time for the first time in my life. Time to think negative thoughts, time to eat junk food for hours, and time to slip away from my true self. I was following a path that was not meant for me.

After Graduation

After graduating from university and moving to Ottawa in April 2019, I overhauled my diet and nutrition (with expert guidance from Isabel). I committed to a regular yoga practice and actively worked on improving my mental health. Yoga seemed like a natural fit as I had done it before and was a more gentle approach than competitive dance had taught me. I worked as a Brand Coordinator at an active travel company for a year before making the choice to commit to my calling.

I gave my notice and left for India to become a 200-hour Ashtanga-Vinyasa certified yoga teacher. Since then, I’ve continued to strengthen my physical asana practice, focused even more on my physical wellbeing and expanded my spiritual practice.

My journey to yoga taught me to appreciate the restorative nature of this practice and to move with intention. I will bring that to each of my classes as we move together!

Sending you all best wishes for the coming year! See you in class.

Peace.
